How to Clean Your Hairbrush: Expert Tips from Hair Flair Salon Bradbury

Updated: Aug 1

A Facebook friend recently asked how to keep her hairbrushes clean. It’s essential to clean any implement we use regularly. Your hairbrush should be thoroughly cleaned every two weeks.

Why Clean Your Hairbrush?

Keeping your brushes in top condition increases their longevity. If your brush has bristles falling out (like boar hair brushes) or rubber bits coming off (like plastic brushes), it's time to replace it. Using a damaged brush can cause cuticle damage to your hair.

How to Clean Your Hairbrush

  1. Use a comb to remove hair from the brush.

  2. Soak the brush in warm water with disinfectant.

  3. Gently scrub two brushes together to lift off excess product buildup.

  4. Leave the brushes to dry completely.

Additional Tips

  • Some brushes (like Denman brushes) can be disassembled for cleaning. Once dry, sprinkle with powder to refit.

  • To clean your comb, follow the same procedure. Use a nail brush to scrub off product buildup.

Important Drying Tips

  • Wooden Brush Handles: Ensure handles are thoroughly dried to prevent cracking.

  • Metal Brush Handles: Ensure handles are thoroughly dried to prevent rust.

If in doubt or if you have further questions about your brush, bring it into Hair Flair Salon Bradbury on your next visit.
